London-based duo XVOTO came bursting out the traps with their synch-tastic debut 'Mommy Can't Sleep' less than a year ago. Today lands the news of what's sure to be an explosive EP (due out on the 4th of June via One Two Many). The self-titled piece is spearheaded by another impressive track called 'Friends', which comes complete with a striking video directed by Faith Aylward. Lead by Jazz Alonso's flawless vocals, 'Friends' covers a lot of sonic ground. From its dark, Billie Eilish-esque intro to a deceptive piano bridge, 'Friends' settles into a sassy R&B-flavoured groove for the most part. Lyrically 'Friends' speaks to "the people who have irreversibly changed you and then having to pretend you’re unphased by them when you’re in the same room...Meanwhile you’re trying to work out what your new boundaries are: can you talk about the past? Can you cry together? Can you show how much pain you’re in around them? “If you fish me, I’ll play dead” means: if you make a move, I’ll pretend I’m dead inside and don’t want you back."
